The guide below contains all the info you need to sell successfully with the pack and on your own.  If there are any unanswered questions or suggestions on content, let pack leadership know and we will do our best to comply.

September 12-14 Council Blitz Weekend #1

September 26 Deadline for 2nd order w/ Chocolate available (Submit ONLINE at Trails-End.com)
October 11 Units pick up 2nd order at Area distribution sites
October 17-19 Council Blitz Weekend #2
November 3 Deadline for 3rd order (Submit ONLINE at Trails-End.com)
November 3 Online Popcorn Sale Ends for Prizes (Scouts can keep selling, but not for prizes)
November 15 Units pick up 3rd order at Area distribution sites. ALL Unit Prize Orders Due
December 8 ALL Payments Due
December 15 Past due payments - commission drops to 25%
December 22 Past due payment - commission drops to 15%

A.  TRAILS END POPCORN REWARDS

Click the link below to see the rewards your scout can earn for their sales during the popcorn season.  Sales made online, through the mobile app, during neighborhood blitzes and through take order sales all count toward their total!  The deadline for online sales to count towards scout rewards is Nov. 3, so sell as much as you can before then!!


B.  CENTRAL FLORIDA COUNCIL REWARDS

Shown below are our council's rewards that the scouts can earn, ON TOP of the Trails End rewards above.  Note that for the council rewards, the SCOUTS RECEIVE ALL PRIZE LEVELS AT AND BELOW THE PRIZE LEVEL THEY ACHIEVE!  FANTASTIC!! 


C.  Sales METHODS & THEIR ADVANTAGES

1. Show & Deliver:  This method is similar to Take Order, except you carry Trail's End products with you to show to your customers as you visit them. The customer is able to select the products he or she wishes to buy from your product selection. You then hand over the product and collect the money right then and there.

 Advantage: No return trip required for product delivery and money collection.

2. Take Order:  This is the most traditional way to sell; going door-to-door with the take order form, which you receive from your leader or council. Your customer chooses the product(s) he or she wishes to buy and writes the order on your form. You will collect the money when you deliver the product to your customers a few weeks later.

Advantages: Provides a personal connection with your customers. Higher dollars per customer than storefront sales.

 3. Selling Online:  This is the best way to sell to your friends and family who live out of town. You can send emails to your customers asking them to purchase Trail's End products online. Your customers click on the link in your email and can begin shopping right away. They order products online and pay with a credit card, and Trail's End ships the products directly to your customers.

 Advantages: No product delivery or money collection. Ability to sell popcorn year-round and reach your friends and family who live far away.

 4. Selling at Work:  Your mom and/or dad take an order form to their work place. Their co-workers write their order on the order form. Your mom and/or dad deliver product and collect the money a few weeks later.

 Advantages: Expands your customer base, & offices often need snacks and gifts.

 5. Show and Sell  :  Your den, pack, or troop gets permission to sell in front of a retail store or in the local mall. You set up a display with products for people to purchase as they walk by. Have plenty of products on display for people to buy.

 Advantages: Gives you access to a large number of potential customers and promotes the Boy Scouts of America in the community.  At this time, there are only 2 S&S scheduled for November.  Your primary means of sales will be the first 4 sale types.


D.  Sales Tips

  • ALWAYS wear your uniform
  • ALWAYS smile and introduce yourself
  • ALWAYS tell your customers why you are selling popcorn
  • KNOW the different kinds of popcorn you are selling
  • ALWAYS say "Thank You"
  • ALWAYS make a copy of your order form
  • ALWAYS have a clean order form with a pen
  • BE SURE to get customer email addresses to send them a "Thank You" email after the sale, reminding them they can re-order online.
  •  ALWAYS leave customers a Sales Card

Download and print the ScoutIDcards at the bottom of this page.  Fill them out and hand out to your customers. They are a great way to let your customers know they can order Trail's End products from you online, plus you can give them to people who can't buy now, but might later!


E.  COUNCIL BLItz Weekend PatchEs & Military donatoin patcheS

Every year, Central Florida Council has 2 Popcorn Blitz Sales. A blitz sale is when a scout sells product door-to-door.  Any scout that sells popcorn during a council blitz weekend, will receive a Council Blitz Limited Edition Patch.  The first council blitz weekend will be on Sept. 12-14.  The second council blitz weekend will be on Oct. 17-19.  The two limited edition patches that are being given away this year are shown to the left.  Very cool!

Remember, Scouts who sell door-to-door do twice as well as Scouts that do only Show-n-Sell.  So that means your Scout will either double the amount he sells, or sell his amount in half the time.  Both are GREAT results.

Just like last year, these patches can be worn individually, or if you have both, they fit together to create a very unique double-fun patch! 

In addition, the patches to the left are the new military donation prizes.  If you sell $150 in military sales, you earn the Silver Level Military Patch Set, shown to the left.





If you sell $250 in military sales, you earn the Gold Level Military Patch Set, shown to the left.


These are all new this year and are VERY COOL, RIGHT?  :)



F.  Facts, Tips & extra Motivation

Facts:

  • Did you know that only 20% of people are ever asked to buy Scouting Popcorn?
  • Did you know that when going door-to-door 2 out of 3 people will buy?
  • Your Scout can earn Rank Requirements by selling Popcorn.
  • It's easier than you think to Sell 30 Items
  • You can download extra order forms on-line

Tips:

  • Use a "Program First" Sales Pitch
  • Wear our uniform (shirt tucked in)
  • Always go with a buddy
  • Bring Popcorn with you to sell
  • Give a Scout ID card so people can buy on-line
  • Say "thank you" whether they buy or not

Extra Motivation:

  • Selling Popcorn can pay for all of your Scouting campouts and activities for this year.
  • You can earn some great prizes from Trail's End
  • You can earn additional great prizes from theCentral Florida Council
  • You can get 10% off your meal in October and November at Planet Hollywood.


G.  The Perfect Pitch

The right sales pitch will help all of your Scouts hit it out of the park when it comes to Popcorn.

It's important for the pitch to be a "Program First" so that the Scout and the customer know why Popcorn is being sold.

Make sure your Scouts and families know what activities are coming up that this Popcorn Campaign is paying for.

 

Here is your Perfect Pitch:

 

Hi, I’m ______ from Pack 57 here in Palm Bay. I’m trying to earn my way to go camping at Camp LaNoChe (or other event you are interested in going to…   camping in the USS Yorktown in South Carolina, etc.)  I’m selling popcorn pay for my trip. Will you help me achieve my goal by buying some popcorn?

STICK WITH THE ABOVE PITCH (or a close variation of it) AND YOU WILL SELL POPCORN.  REMEMBER TO PUSH THE PROGRAM, CHANGE THE CONVERSATION IMMEDIATELY FROM PURCHASING POPCORN TO
